I apologise for my late reply

Hi,
When writing a letter, how would you write this:
"I appologise for my late reply; Your last e-mail was in Arabic, and as I didn't know any Arabic at that time, I was not able to understand your e-mail, nor reply."

اعتذر عن ردي المتأخر على رسالتك الالكترونية الأخيرة إذ كانت مكتوبة باللغة العربية ولم أكن أعرف العربية وقتها، فلم استطع فهم فحواها ولا الرد عليها.

آسف على تأخر الرد. بريد الإكتروني الآخر الذي أرسلت إلي كان مكتوب بالعربية.في تلك الفترة ليست كانت لغتي العربية جيدا ,لذا لم أستطع الرد عليها

A few more corrections/improvements:




I should also point out that the first version assumes that the speaker is male. If the speaker is female, آسف should be changed to آسفة. The second version would not change based on gender.

It is not a literal translation, but I think it sounds better this way.

"I was not able to understand your e-mail nor reply" implies "I was not able to understand your e-mail so I could not reply."
